Interview with Joshua W Scott

What was the first book you remember picking and reading by yourself?

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.

What was the last book you read that made you say damn, that was a good book?

The last great book I read was Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell.

Which artists have influenced your current artistic direction?

Saul Steinberg, Bill Watterson and Gary Larson.

What advice would you give someone just starting to send their work to journals?

I would give to those submitting to journals: Do the work for its own sake and trust your instincts. Your audience will find you.

Joshua W Scott has written and recorded over 200 songs on 20 CDs, beginning in the early 1990’s. Many were used in several independent films, both in the United States and Europe. He wrote a screenplay in 2017 entitled “Twelve Conversations” which was filmed in Washington and accepted into the Port Townsend Film Festival in 2019. He created “The Sticklers,” a comic strip starring two stick figures and their parrot, Albert, in 2022. He will continue to perform his songs and work on “The Sticklers” until something changes his mind.
