Evocative Mother Teresa Memories

A photograph of my wife with Mother Teresa, snapped while
Sally, then with Catholic Charites, accompanied the Saint to a
former crack house, adorns our mantelpiece.
Sally jokes that at 5’2” she’s “the tall one.”
My friend Pete, then a realtor, shares a story from around the
same time. Teresa visited a funeral home, possibly to acquire
the property for her Missionaries of Charity.
Teresa paused over a luxurious casket, her hand gliding over
its smooth mahogany and velvety interior. Dramatically, Mother
Teresa whispered, “Apparently, the dead will sleep more
comfortably than the homeless tonight.”
