Red Giant

The Sun is eating us to wrinkles; cells pop and split while we vainly try to see who will outlive the other. Luminosity, they called it, reporting from their bunkers, will heat the Earth like a hot pocket for a billion years, until oxygen and nitrogen are blown away by solar wind and the oceans boil. Then our water will be lost to icy darkness, our skin flaking and itching as we return to the cosmos' cauldron to rest.
