Interview with Christine Arroyo

Christine, what was the first book you remember reading all by yourself?

Little House on the Prairie.

What writer(s) or which book(s) influenced your decision to become a writer?

I loved Ann of Green Gables so much so I'd probably credit Lucy Maud Montgomery as the writer who really enveloped me in a world and made me love storytelling.

Is there a writing craft book that you would recommend to new writers?

Craft in the Real World by Michael Salesses.

Is there a writer who has influenced your current writing style?

George Saunders and Takashi Murakami.

Why write flash fiction?

I love flash as a bite-sized snack into a feeling.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting to send their work out to journals?

Keep going!

Christine Arroyo's work has been published in X-R-A-Y Magazine, Flash Fiction Magazine, Dark Recesses Press, Beyond Words, Burningword Literary Journal and Variety Pack, to name a few. Her work has been nominated for “Best of the Net,” and is forthcoming in the 2023 Best Microfiction Anthology. She has just completed her first novel about siblings navigating an increasingly warming world.
