NUNUM's Interview with Claire Hahn

Claire Hahn is a fifteen year old Korean American artist who lives in Seoul, South Korea, and attends Seoul International School. Hahn’s specialty is based on drawing and painting and she deals with the contexts of worldwide environmental issues on canvas. Through this opportunity, she was able to construct pieces of art that reflected on her creativity in how she visualizes the corruption taking place in our environment. And, thankfully for us, Claire's piece 'Hopeless Zoo' also became the cover of our Summer 2021 issue.

Claire, thank you for giving us a little of your time, you might

know how this is going to start already but here we go, what was the last book you read that made you say damn that was a good book?

Kafka's Metamorphosis was the most recent book that I felt ‘damn that was a good book.’ Although the book seems like an easy-read novel, it is, at the same time, the hardest book to understand.

Pen, pencil or phone which one do you reach for when you need to write something down?

When I need to write something down, I always like to use the classic pencil and paper. While writing with a pen feels too permanent and using my phone feels too public, I feel like a pencil is the perfect tool of writing my ideas down.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting to send their work out to journals?

One word of advice for future artists sending works to journals is to not only send in art pieces that are visually attractive, but works that have a deeper meaning that could either relate to the current affairs or your life.
