Jenn Ashton gifted the Spring

issue of NUNUM with a reflective look at the kind of love the world would do well having more of with her piece Still.

Recently Jenn was kind enough to sit down we us and yes everyone knows by now what our first question for her was.

Jenn, what was the first book you remember picking and reading?

Charlotte's Web by EB White.

Ah, one I actually made it through myself. Let's get more recent, what was the last book you read that made you say damn that was a good book?

Educated by Tara Westover.

Nice, one more for the reading list. What about when you are kicking your feet up somewhere, who are your go-to writers when you need something to read on holiday?

Douglas Adams, Anne Morrow Lindberg, Stewart McLean and

Helen Fielding, in that order.

I want to ask you about influences Jenn, what writer(s) or which book(s) influenced your decision to become a writer.

Probably Charlotte's Web, but I would have been quite young when I knew I was a writer, so maybe something before that.

Wow, so being a writer is something you've been working on almost literally forever. Wish you could see the smile that gave me.

What about contemporary writers, who do you most admire?

JK Rowling, because wow, look at what she wrote!

I have to say I've never read any of those books but after hearing that from you, I'll have to see if I can get my hands on book one. Speaking of books, is there a writing craft book that you would recommend to new writers?

Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott.

Which writer has influenced your current writing style?

Douglas Adams.

Okay that's twice you've mention him, after I get through a Harry Potter book, he is going to have to be next.

Pen, pencil or phone which one do you reach for when you need to write something down?

Anything within reach: chalk, paint, mascara, iPencil or keyboard.

What advice would you give someone who is just starting to send their work out to journals?

Ensure you follow all of the submission requirements.

Be proud of all of your rejections, because it means that you are writing and brave enough to send your work out into the world!

No matter what, just keep writing.
