Interview with Max King Cap

Max before we get started, thank you so much for Breadbasket. This might be the wrong way to say it because of the image, but that cover pulled the whole issue together perfectly. But, let's get to it, what was the first book you remember picking and reading by yourself?

Where the Wild Things Are.

That one is turning out to be much more popular than I'd expected. How about more recently, what was the last book you read that made you say damn that was a good book?

Ah, nice, one more for my reading list. Who are your go-to writers when you need something to read on holiday?

Erik Larson and Taylor Branch.

Pen, pencil or phone which one do you reach for when you need to write something down?

Pen, preferably a fountain.

A man after my own heart, let's pivot to art for a bit Max, is there a contemporary artist out there that you admire?

Marlene Dumas.

And finally, what advice would you give to someone who is just starting to send their work out to journals?

Write it, send it, forget it. You have more writing to do.

Artist's Statement

My current work is about physical and psychological degradation, both contemporary and historical — the injustice of false imprisonment, and the greed driven use of thalidomide; the rapacity demonstrated by pharmaceutical companies, and the rampant use of carcinogenic pesticides; of willful ocean pollution, and the intentional Flint water poisoning.
