post-apocalyptic tribal and sync up to an unspoken undercurrent within the story with such a precision that they were a welcome reminder that I wasn’t the first person to visualize where these words could take a reader’s mind.

The final image, contrary to the violent, earthy tones sculpting the rest of the collection, is paletted in an almost photocopier low-on-toner black and white, and while it jarred the ending during a first read, with time the image’s disconnect morphed into a well-placed reminder that this reality, for the time being, is still just a story--right?
